Light to Medium-Level 30% Alpha Beta Combination Peel
WHAT IS IT: This combination peel utilizes both salicylic acid and glycolic acid. Salicylic acid is a common ingredient found in over-the-counter acne treatments because it's capable of dissolving dirt and debris responsible for outbreaks. Glycolic acid particles are extremely small, they can effectively dissolves the glue that holds dead skin cells together. In combination, salicylic and glycolic acids create a powerful acne- and anti-aging treatment.
WHAT DOES IT DO: Both acids penetrate superficially to affect only the outer layers of the skin, resulting in a gentle peel that's perfect for all skin types. Your skin will feel softer, look smoother, with improved texture and tone and reduced hyperpigmentation (sun damage). The Alpha Beta peel is also an excellent solution for recurring acne breakouts. It's perfect for those with oily skin and those looking for a reduction in fine lines and mild scarring. Because this peel is superficial, you can expect a shorter recovery time and fewer painful side effects.
HOW DO YOU USE IT: The 30 percent Alpha Beta peel is a light peel and is suitable for all skin types and both beginning and experienced peelers. With a peel of this strength, a full course of 8-10 peels are needed to see optimal results. You'll receive is a 30ml (1fl oz) bottle of each peeling agent (2 bottles total, 2 oz total) in amber glass to preserve the activity of the product. In addition, you'll receive a full set of detailed instruction on how to use and neutralize this product. This peel can be applied for 3-10 minutes.
WHY USE A 30 PERCENT COMBINATION PEEL: Glycolic Acid is a naturally occurring chemical belonging to the Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) family. Derived from sugar cane, this important AHA is the smallest of the fruit acids and is able to penetrate the skin, allowing it to effectively dissolve the 'glue' that holds dead cells on the surface of the skin. The dead skin cells are what cause a dull, uneven skin tone, and the blocking of pores leading to blackheads and acne. This dissolving action of the Glycolic Acid allows the dead cells to slough off, leaving behind a smoother skin surface with clear pores. This also helps stimulate collagen formation under the skin's surface which helps plump up the skin from beneath, smoothing out fine surface wrinkles and superficial scars.
WHAT TO EXPECT: There may be some redness right after the peel, but generally there is not much if any actual peeling. These peels are repeated every three weeks. This kit provides enough peel solution for approximately two months worth of peels.
OTHER INFORMATION: Salicylic acid, a common beta hydroxy acid, has been used for treating acne for decades. In fact, acne treatment remains the primary use for beta hydroxy acids. Its effect on the epidermis and upper dermis are similar to those of prescription Retin-A, but with less irritation. It is soluble in oil and can exfoliate oily skin areas, even within oil-rich pores. Therefore, it has a beneficial effect on acne, pigmentation disturbances, and sun damaged skin. Because it does exfoliate, it has recently been added to formulations for chemical skin peels.
This 30 percent at-home peel is very safe when used as directed, but it is a strong, professional strength peel (pH 2) and should be used only as directed. As with all products, a patch test is recommended to see how your skin reacts to the peel. As with all exfoliating products, the use of sunscreen is essential to obtaining the results you are looking for. If you are not able to commit to using a sunscreen, this is not the treatment you should choose as you will just damage your skin all over again.
